Holyrood High School Malawi Project June 2018

In June 2018 Holyrood RC High School Glasgow took thirty seven 6th year pupils to Blantyre in Malawi.

This is the 11th year of the Holyrood /Malawi partnership with each person on the team committed to raising over £2500 each to take part and also supply a long list of building materials, books and educational materials.

Laurie Ross were very proud to help sponsor this trip by donating t-shirts and hoodies for everyone and helping to raise further funds. This amazing project also inspired a member of the Laurie Ross management team, Lorraine Cooper to sign up for the trip and her generous family, friends and colleagues helped to raise double her fundraising target!

The gallery below shows an insight into what the team achieved and some of the children who’s lives they changed. This year the team built a library and refurbished 2 classrooms, a library and a Mary’s Meals Centre. They also visited Mary’s Meal nursery to feed and play with the children, most of whom are orphans or have HIV. The also were privileged to be asked to help with the Mary’s Meal Backpack Appeal and delivered filled backpacks to a shocked and delighted primary school.

In the previous 10 years Holyrood / Malawi  partnership has helped build of over 30 new classrooms , 2 school libraries, 2 units for children with additional support needs plus a toilet for children with physical disability. They have refurbished and decorated 2 Mary’s Meals under 6 Feeding Centres.

Holyrood School works in close partnership with the charity, Mary’s Meals, whose ambition is to feed the starving children of the world but to do so specifically in a place of education. They seek to encourage children to attend school by ensuring they have a life-giving meal in school each day.
